I know I am not the only person that ask’s why! Come on be honest, when things happen that we do not understand, there is at the very least the temptation to ask why.
There is a segment of people that believe we should never ask why. I disagree with them wholeheartedly; I believe it is a part of being a human.
When I was diagnosed with breast cancer, I absolutely asked why. When I faced divorce, family separation, financial suicide, job loss, I asked why. I did not stay there, but the question did come to mind.
Asking why is often healthy in my opinion. Evaluating the events or situations that lead to the challenging circumstances, can provide insight as to how and why you landed in the situation. With that understanding, necessary adjustments and changes can take place in hopes of not setting yourself again for the same to occur.
Admittedly, as I have watched this country crumble away from what I have always known, I asked why, how we got here. My spiritual connection gave me a platform to ask what we were to learn from this. Discrimination and racism have always been a part of my life and will always be alive in those that refuse to move beyond their hatred. Yet to have the leader of the free world, poking the bear and encouraging a comfort level and acceptance for doing so many things that are unacceptable for children and adults alike.
I believe that there was a time, that Joe Biden asked why. Why did I have to lose my wife and daughter as they went out Christmas shopping in an accident with a tractor trailer. Why be made fun off as a child growing up in Scranton Pennsylvania, looked down upon as his father lost his job. Why did I have to lose my son Beau to brain cancer. One man, so much pain.
Regardless of your faith persuasion or none, I am encouraged as I confirm my theory today, our lives are not our own, it equips us with the curriculum to serve and aid others.
Today, we are notified that former Vice President Joe Biden is now President elect of these United States. Every experience that he has endured and survived equips him with an understanding and compassion that is authentic because he has felt for himself, what many in our land face every day.
Today, we select as a country, a man that has now received more votes than any other President in the history of elections.
Today, we selected the first president that did not graduate from an ivy league school, rather a state school. Today we selected a man that rode public transportation by way of train his entire career, hustling many days to get home to tuck his son’s in.
How many times have some of us wondered if our time has passed, are we too old to press forward to our goals and dreams? Today we select the oldest person ever to win the presidency. How many of us have a form of handicap? Today we select a stutter.
I am sure you have experienced times in your life when you look back and realize, the pain was a set up for your praise. Today we select a man on the very same day that 38 years ago, was sworn into the senate. The very state that he had to leave as a young boy due to his father’s job loss, is the state that sealed the deal on his election. Yes, he lost Beau, however before he left, he had worked extensively with Kamala Harris and was able to share his praise and support of her. Today we select a man that knows how to forgive. The fact is during the presidential debate, Kamala Harris sideswiped and annihilated him, leaving him visibly shaken by the pain inflicted, yet he was able to forgive. He said yes to Kamala Harris, making her the first female to ever win a vice presidential seat, not to mention a woman of color. History on so many levels was made today.
President elect Joseph Biden Jr. will not be perfect. However, his position does change the trajectory of this country. It is my hope that the batteries that have been installed in the backs of hate filled people will run down. That people will feel that there is an opportunity for real positive change. Most importantly, the world can see that good really can beat evil. Never in the United States of America have, we seen people dancing in the streets in massive numbers at the time of any election. It reminds me of the Wizard of Oz, ding dong the witch is gone. President elect Biden, today you know why.
