Whining about the days of old is something I suppose every generation does as they look back nostalgically over those unforgettable times, when through their eyes, music was music, fashion was fashion, parenting was parenting, and the list can go on and on.
I wonder now if the times that are upon us, a case can be made regardless of our generations, that we might be approaching a line that gets awfully close to the wiping out the value of basic life principals which have sustained us for generations?
No matter what the music is or the fashions are, basic rules of engagement have to be in play as I see it. There still has to be a place for integrity and truth, or does it I ask? Why is it that we have become so comfortable, almost entertained if you will, with watching people tear each other apart piece by piece? The nastier the better. It seems our news media works hard at having roundtable discussions that are better at nasty-isms than facts, and those that dare share the truth, somehow find themselves on the canceled show list. Those that are best at scandalous, insidious, degradation that seeks to not only to tear apart the victim of the day with no regard, for their families, friends and loved ones – with absolutely no regard for the lifelong scars inflicted on them seen and unseen. Some not set to manifest until years gone by when everyone has moved on to the next victim or the next scandal. What be it you, or your child or family, would you feel differently?
This political season is one of the worse in my lifetime! It matters not who you vote for, but for any candidate to be comfortable with the truth that this country or this world, is comfortable with some of the shameless venom that is being spewed is unsettling. But, why not……. the ratings are high and the opposition is losing when they don’t engage, so now many are joining in for survival sake.
The truth is, this did not start with this political season, we have been priming this pump for years leading up to this by accepting and allowing what has been put in front of us without standing up with vengeance and power of numbers that simply said no and stick to a position that says, we will not allow you the media or anyone to bombard our homes and families with material that is simply reckless. I understand freedom of speech and expression and I support that, but when over 60% of everything available today is one-sided, in my opinion, the numbers are skewing in the direction of being out of balance.
Our families and our children are no less important today than they were yesterday. Why have we allowed this world to get so out of hand?
What I think about so often as I observe some that seem to have become so comfortable treating one another with such disrespect, dredging up so much hatred and nastiness, unleashing skeletons that are best left in their closets, is the reaction when the tables are turned. Dishing the dirt atop another, though not right by any standard, is much easier than being the one with the dirt being thrown on your head.
I’ve always thought Romans 14:10-12 addressed this topic in a way that puts the discussion into a place that matters the most, at least for me; what about you…..” Why do you pass judgment on your brother? Or you, why do you despise your brother? For we will all stand before the judgment seat of God; for it is written, “As I live, says the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God.” So then each of us will give an account of himself to God.”
One thing is for sure, not one of us is without something that we would rather not put on blast, why then would we enjoy when it happens to someone else regardless of who they are. Just sayin.
